Does my travel insurance policy cover my property?

Personal Belongings and Baggage – If, despite your due care and attention, your property should be lost or damaged during your trip, you can claim for the value of the item.

ROCK Insurance Group travel insurance offers cover for single items to the value of £100 under an Standard policy, £150 under a Premier Policy and £300 under a Premier Plus policy. Delayed baggage for £50 per day up to a maximum of £75 with a Standard policy and £75 per day up to a maximum of £75 with Premier and Premier Plus policies.

If your travel insurance claim is for delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport, you must tell the relevant carrier about any delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport if they are being carried by any Carrier. You must also get a property irregularity report. If you do not tell the Carrier within three days of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim.

You must report immediately any loss or theft of money or passport or loss or theft of personal belongings to the police (and hotel management/embassy if this applies). If your baggage is damaged, lost or stolen whilst in the possession of the carrier then you will need to claim compensation from the carrier.

If you are taking higher value possessions away with you then you should check you have adequate cover under your home contents insurance.
